CCPE,  2 Warwick Cres,  London  W2 6NE, 1000-1700

  • What is trauma?
  • How do I identify it?
  • What are PTSD & ASD
  • What’s the neuroscience of trauma?
  • How do I take a trauma history?
  • How do I create a safe environment?
  • How do I avoid retraumatising my client?
  • What forms of therapy really work for trauma?

Trauma is at the heart of our clients’ experiences of distress – the reason they come to us in the first place.

Accidents and illness. Abuse. Childhood experiences. Poor parenting. Boarding school. Divorce and relationship breakdown.

However, traditional counselling and therapy training generally pays very little attention to trauma, except perhaps as part of a broad introduction to the DSM-IV cookbook of mental illness.

A grounded awareness of trauma, and how to handle it, will make a real difference to your practice.

On this highly interactive and stimulating day, we comprehensively cover the basics – including an introduction to Trauma-Focused CBT and especially to EMDR (the only therapies recommended for PTSD by the UK’s National Institute for Clinical Excellence).

Trainer Mark Brayne is a UKCP psychotherapist and registered EMDR practitioner. As a former BBC correspondent and CCPE Masters graduate, he’s a leading European authority on trauma (especially as experienced by journalists).

A former board member of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS), Mark has trained and worked with organisations ranging from the BBC, Reuters and the Washington Post to BUPA, CiC and CoupleWorks.

COST: £95 for the day, including handouts and CPD certificate. To reserve a place do get in touch.

Feedback from previous courses: “Truly superlative training”. “Hugely useful and relevant.” “Erudite, funny.” “Good trainer with exceptional presentation skills.” “One of the best trainings we’ve ever organised…”
